How do I know if a Keypad Lock or Keypad Deadbolt will fit my residential door?

Keypad Locks and Keypad Deadbolts are designed to fit most standard doors. In most cases, a screwdriver is the only tool needed for installation; no additional holes need to be drilled into the door. If the door has not already been prepped for a door lock, please go to www.schlage.com and download the proper template to prepare the door.

There are few instances where interference issues may prevent you from being able to install the product correctly. Here’s a quick check you can do at home to ensure the product will fit.

  1. Do you have a screen door or storm door outside the door of which you will be installing the Schlage lock?
    • No – Great, you do not have to worry about any interference issues with this type of door.
    • Yes – The lever of your outside door may interfere with the Keypad Lock preventing you from closing your outside door completely. Before installation, verify you have an outward clearance from the face of the door of 3 ¼” (82 mm) for a Keypad Lock with a lever, 3 ¼” (82 mm) for a Keypad Lock with a knob and 2 ¼” (57 mm) for a Keypad Deadbolt. Greatest chance for interference would be if the storm door and the entry door hardware were installed on the same side of the doorway.
  1. Does your door have a window(s), design or trim that extends outward toward the edge of the door?
    • No – Great, you do not have to worry about any interference issues with this type of door.
    • Yes – In order for the Keypad Lock or Keypad Deadbolt to be installed properly, you will need to have clearance from the edge of the door of 4 ¼” (108 mm) for a Keypad Lock and 4 ½” (114 mm) for a Keypad Deadbolt.
  1. Are you installing your Keypad Lock below an existing deadbolt?
    • No – Great, just be sure to drill the center of your deadbolt hole a minimum of 5 ½” (140 mm) from the center of the existing knob hole.
    • Yes – To ensure the Keypad Lock or Keypad Deadbolt is installed correctly, you need to have a minimum of 5 ½” (140 mm) from the center of the existing knob hole.
