Basic Material Processing
- Casting
Material is produced by pouring molten alloy into premolded
forms. This method is very durable and can withstand considerable
abuse. Finished products adhere extremely well to castings,
which are used in more expensive types of trim.
- Wrought
Metal is rolled into flat sheets or strips and formed by
punching or die-cutting into desired shapes. Products are
considerably more cost-effective than other methods of processing.
- Forged
Metal is hammered, pressed or rolled into shape. A smooth,
dense product results from this process. Forgings are extremely
strong and are generally used where considerable stress
is encountered and where design detail is important.
- Extruded
Products are formed by forcing or drawing semi-molten metal
through dies. This process lends itself to products that
have designs which are linear in nature.
